Exhibition

The Multispecies Salon is an art exhibit that has appeared galleries of San Francisco and New Orleans.  In the Spring of 2011 the Salon is coming to a repurposed office space at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City.  Rather than being a static exhibit, the Multispecies Salon is starting a new lifecycle of growth and decay.

The Multispecies Salon is using art to address a series of interrelated questions:
Which species flourish, and which fail, when natural and cultural worlds intermingle and collide? What happens when the bodies of organisms, and even entire ecosystems, are brought into schemes of biotechnology and dreams of biocapitalism? And finally, in the aftermath of disaster–in blasted landscapes that have been transformed by multiple catastrophes–what are the possibilities of biocultural hope?

Featuring art and artifacts from the Pretty Goat Guerrilla Dairy in New Orleans as well as conversation with intellectuals on the subject of raw milk. Cheeses, soap, and milk in a liquid form will be on offer. We will feature three presentations:

“Policing People and Microbes: Raw Milk Economies in Post-Socialist Europe”, Diana Mincyte (Yale University)
